It goes without saying that South Carolina is full of surprises. No matter where you are, you are a reasonable drive to the mountains or the beach and you are never far from a pristine nature preserve or park. If you’re looking for things to do in Lexington, or are planning a trip to the area here are 5 of my favorite things to do in Lexington.
The Saluda Shoals Dam Walk - enjoy awe inspiring views of Lake Murray while walking this immaculately maintained pedestrian boulevard. Nearly 3.5 miles round trip this is an excellent spot for walk, jog, run or bike ride. Great for individuals and families alike.
The Lexington County Museum - before industry, before the Lake, and before any of us were around to see it - Lexington was a wild world dotted by small farms and country cottages. Preserved wooden homes, tools and instruments can be found at the Lexington County Museum - some dating as far back as the early 1700’s.
Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve - this large preserve is home to one of the area's most unique geological formations. A massive boulder atop a delicate platform. It’s as though a piece of the arid west was transposed into a lush woodlands. Beyond the geological formation, there are excellent trails and nature around every turn.
Mercer House Estate Winery - this beautiful 12 acre winery is worth a visit. Tour the vineyard and sample wines and relax in this luscious estate. Be sure to take a bottle or 5 home with you!
Explore Lake Murray - consider renting a pontoon, or hiring a local guide to take you out on the lake. Perfect for fishing or simply cruising around. Lake Murray is a truly enormous lake and cakes several hours from end to end.
